“Budget Airline Baggage Rules: What Travelers Need to Know”

Date:

Budget airline travelers may face uncertainty when packing for their flights due to ever-changing baggage rules. To avoid unexpected fees at the gate, it’s crucial to stay updated on the latest luggage regulations before your journey.

While many holidaymakers focus on the size and weight of their luggage, there are additional considerations regarding certain bag types. Smart bags, equipped with built-in batteries and USB ports, are restricted from being checked into the hold on most airlines, including Ryanair.

For Ryanair flights, smart bags with batteries inside cannot be placed in the hold. There is a 100Wh battery capacity limit for carry-on bags, so passengers should verify their battery capacity before flying. If travelers prefer to check their smart bag, they must remove the lithium battery before checking it in.

Ryanair’s updated policy now allows free under-seat bags to be 20% larger, with dimensions of up to 40x30x20cm. Additionally, the airline is extending the airport check-in and bag drop deadlines from 40 to 60 minutes before departure to accommodate passenger queues during peak travel times.

In a light-hearted announcement on their Facebook page, Ryanair hinted at the possibility of charging talkative passengers on early morning flights to prevent disturbances to other travelers.
