Korean music sensation BTS has received criticism from a section of their fanbase following the appearance of two band members alongside the controversial American artist, Chris Brown, at his concert in Toronto. J-Hope (Jung Ho-seok) and RM (Kim Nam-joon) were spotted at Brown’s show at Rogers Stadium, where he performed alongside Usher.
The duo’s photos with Brown, shared on the singer’s Instagram, sparked mixed reactions among BTS fans, known as the ARMY. Some expressed disappointment over the association, citing Brown’s troubled history, including assault charges and a criminal record. Brown’s legal issues date back to 2009 when he pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. Subsequent incidents led to jail time in 2014 and a recent guilty plea for a nightclub assault in London.
Despite the backlash, some fans defended J-Hope and RM, suggesting they may have attended the concert primarily to see Usher rather than being aware of Brown’s controversial past. The online debate among fans highlighted differing opinions on separating an artist’s personal history from their work and the need to avoid jumping to conclusions about the band members’ intentions.
The situation has sparked discussions within the BTS fan community, with some fans expressing disappointment in the members’ choice to associate with Brown, while others advocate for understanding and not rushing to judgment. BTS representatives have not yet responded to requests for comments on the matter.
