A 68-year-old British man was fatally shot during a robbery incident in southern Ghana, as confirmed by local law enforcement authorities.
The tragic event occurred on Friday at a bar located across from the Community Nine cemetery in Tema, approximately 15 miles east of Accra, the country’s capital. The victim was swiftly transferred to Tema General Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to reports from Modern Ghana, the man was seated with a group of individuals when six young men on motorcycles approached them. One of the assailants seized the victim’s phone.
A statement released by the police revealed, “Two of the attackers approached the group, with one snatching the victim’s mobile device from the table. Upon the victim’s attempt to retrieve his phone, one of the culprits fired a shot, and the group quickly fled on their motorcycles. The Tema Regional Police Command has initiated a comprehensive operation to apprehend the suspects.”
Law enforcement officers retrieved a 9mm spent shell at the scene, which has been collected as evidence for further investigation, the statement disclosed.
Authorities informed that witnesses have been interviewed, and steps are being taken to notify the British High Commission about the demise of a British citizen.
Responding to the incident, a representative from the Foreign Office informed The Mirror: “We are providing assistance to the family of the deceased individual in Ghana.”
