Boxing Icon Ricky Hatton’s Cause of Death Revealed

Date:

Ricky Hatton was discovered deceased at his residence in Manchester, with injuries indicating a resemblance to hanging, according to a pathologist’s assessment. The cause of death was officially recorded as “hanging” during an inquest that confirmed no signs of suspicious circumstances surrounding the boxing icon’s passing. Friends and family, including his son Campbell, gathered at Stockport coroner’s court as the inquest commenced.

Among those present were long-time friend and manager Paul Speak, as well as Ricky’s father Ray, brother Matthew, and former partner Jennifer Dooley. The former world champion was found at his £1.7 million home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14 the previous year, at the age of 46.

Paul Speak, who discovered him unresponsive, had last seen Hatton alive on September 12, noting his seemingly good condition. Concern arose when Hatton missed a scheduled event the next day, prompting Mr. Speak to visit the residence on the morning of September 14 for a planned trip to Manchester Airport.

The senior coroner, Alison Mutch, stated during the inquest that despite significant future plans made by Hatton, no suicide notes were found, leading to a narrative verdict due to the lack of concrete evidence indicating suicidal intent. The coroner highlighted Hatton’s devotion to his family, emphasizing the deep impact of his loss on his loved ones.

Post-mortem examinations revealed signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition associated with repeated head trauma, in the former boxing champion. Family members described Hatton as a dedicated father who had shown improvement in recent years, dispelling notions of premeditated actions. The inquest reflected on Hatton’s memory decline over the years, shedding light on his struggles with substance abuse.

The findings underscored the complexities surrounding Hatton’s passing, with no conclusive evidence pointing towards suicide. The tragic loss of the beloved family member was evident throughout the proceedings, as memories of Hatton’s legacy and personal battles painted a poignant picture of a man who found solace in his family amidst personal challenges.
