Three tourists lost their lives and two others are missing following an avalanche that struck the Alps mountain range. The tragic incident occurred when the avalanche descended on the rocky Cima Vertana in the Ortles Mountain range in the South Tyrol region of Italy around 4 pm.
Efforts are currently underway to locate the two missing members of the five-person ski mountaineering team. Search and rescue operations involve a helicopter service and firefighters.
The victims, a 30-year-old man and woman, along with a 50-year-old man, were swept away while climbing. Their bodies were recovered later by rescue teams. Reports suggest that the avalanche happened suddenly, trapping two climbers under debris and causing minor injuries.
