“Alanis Morissette Sues Ex-Tour Manager for Blackmail”

Date:

Alanis Morissette has initiated legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a calculated scheme to blackmail the singer for drug trafficking unless Morissette agreed to an extensive contract. The lawsuit, filed in California and obtained by CBC News, alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report Morissette to British authorities for drug trafficking unless Morissette hired her as a tour director for 15 years and paid her significant compensation.

Morissette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, asserting that she will not succumb to blackmail and is determined to expose the scheme and hold Urinov accountable. Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired in 2025 as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s world tour.

During a flight from the U.K. to Spain in July 2025, an incident occurred at the airport where British authorities flagged a bag belonging to Urinov, alleging it contained marijuana and xylazine. Despite Urinov’s admission and possession of a medical marijuana license, she was briefly detained but later released. Subsequently, Urinov allegedly sent threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a 15-year contract with substantial compensation and immigration assistance.

The lawsuit highlights instances where Urinov’s management was deemed unsatisfactory, including significant financial losses due to booking errors and past criminal activities not disclosed during the hiring process. Morissette expressed reluctance but felt compelled to take legal action against Urinov to prevent further coercion and financial demands. Morissette is now seeking a trial by jury. CBC News has contacted Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment but has not received a response.
