An airstrike conducted by Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a three-year-old child, in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday, as confirmed by health authorities.
According to Gaza medical personnel, the strike took place near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claiming the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, aged 3, and Hussam Nusair, as well as causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military stated that the strike was targeted at a Hamas militant, identified as Nusair, who was allegedly involved in attacks against Israeli civilians and forces.
Hamas has not yet responded to the military’s accusations.
Despite a ceasefire backed by the United States last October that temporarily halted significant hostilities in the region, Israeli military actions have persisted, citing the need to prevent Hamas and other Gaza militants from carrying out attacks.
Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire terms and obstructing the implementation of a broader peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli withdrawals from certain areas and the disarmament of Hamas.
Since the ceasefire came into effect last October, over 1,300 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives in Gaza, according to health officials in the region, while the Israeli military has reported four casualties among its soldiers.
