“Canadian Astronaut Joshua Kutryk Thriving on ISS Mission”

Date:

Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk embarked on a six-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS) 11 days ago. During his first Q&A session with reporters in space on Tuesday, Kutryk expressed his excitement, stating that he is thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Adapting to life in space, Kutryk mentioned the challenges of relearning basic skills such as sleeping, eating, and using tools in a microgravity environment. Despite the initial frustrations, he finds joy and satisfaction in the unique experience, emphasizing the privilege of being part of the mission.

Apart from the exhilarating aspects, Kutryk has been actively engaged in scientific experiments focused on mental health and monitoring his vital signs. This mission marks Kutryk’s debut space voyage, following closely after Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen’s recent lunar mission.

Kutryk aims to inspire Canadians towards innovation and a brighter future through his space journey. He emphasized the significance of Canada’s involvement in space exploration, highlighting the collaborative efforts of industry, academia, and commercial entities in pushing the boundaries of spaceflight and technology development.

During the Q&A, Kutryk mentioned passing over Vancouver and Quebec, providing glimpses of the Canadian landscape from space. He also marveled at witnessing the northern lights and acknowledged the importance of maintaining exercise and nutrition regimes in space, evident from his weight loss since arriving on the ISS.

Numerous experiments onboard focus on astronaut health, with Canadian initiatives like the T-Bone project utilizing 3D technology to study bone health changes in space. Kutryk underlined Canada’s pivotal role in space exploration, emphasizing the country’s strong legacy and the benefits derived from ongoing missions.

Overall, Kutryk hopes that Canadians perceive the broader implications of their space endeavors, emphasizing the continuation of Canada’s influential presence in space exploration moving forward.
