Actor Hannah Einbinder recently took to social media to redirect the focus to the ongoing conflict in Gaza rather than the attention garnered by her arrest during a protest outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the UN. In her statement, Einbinder emphasized the urgent need to address the genocidal warfare Israel is conducting against Palestine and Southern Lebanon, criticizing the U.S. for its continuous support of Israel.
Einbinder, along with fellow actor Susan Sarandon and others, was among over 100 demonstrators detained by authorities in New York City during Netanyahu’s address to the UN General Assembly. Images captured Sarandon, 79, and Einbinder, 31, being escorted in handcuffs by police, with Sarandon wearing a shirt advocating for funding people over bombs. Comedian Caleb Hearon, Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, and New York City council member Chi Osse were also apprehended.
The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, saw hundreds rallying near the United Nations, blocking traffic and chanting against arming Israel and promoting support for Gaza and Iran. The activist group reported over 100 arrests during the demonstration, demanding an end to the ongoing genocide and military funding from the U.S. to Israel.
Amnesty International and a UN inquiry have alleged Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute genocide, a claim vehemently denied by Israel. Netanyahu, in defense, highlighted Israel’s efforts to minimize civilian casualties through warnings before strikes and providing humanitarian aid during conflicts.
Israel has faced criticism for denying or delaying aid requests, accusing Hamas of diverting supplies, and restricting international aid organizations from operating in Gaza. The country’s actions have been condemned by aid groups and accused of violating humanitarian laws.
