Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot was reported missing after a recent flight. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced via social media platform X that the plane was discovered on Wolf Lake within Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The JRCC indicated that the case has been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s investigation. While the aircraft found has not been explicitly linked to the missing 73-year-old pilot, known as David, by the police.
According to Durham police, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the plane at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m. the same day. It was mentioned that he typically flies in the vicinity south of the Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Previous statements from the Ontario Provincial Police described the aircraft as a small blue homemade plane bearing the letters “FOFZ” on its tail. David is characterized as an experienced pilot, standing at five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, sporting black grey hair and a mustache.
