“Canadian Striker Promise David Joins Brighton on Record Deal”

Date:

Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Canadian striker Promise David for the upcoming season in the Premier League. The player has been signed on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with an obligation to make the deal permanent for a reported fee of $29.7 million US upon meeting certain undisclosed conditions.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be moving to the Premier League starting from the next season, in exchange for a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old striker, who spent the last two seasons at Union, contributed significantly to the team’s success by scoring 41 goals in 82 matches and aiding in their first league title win in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.

Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David showcased his skills by scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also made notable contributions to the Canadian national team with four goals in 14 appearances. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially debuted for Nigeria’s under-23 team in October 2022. However, after receiving approval from FIFA following discussions with Canada’s coach Jesse Marsch in February 2025, he switched his allegiance to play for Canada.

Brighton described David as an exceptional striker with impressive physical abilities and a proven goal-scoring track record. The club’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm about the player’s potential contribution, given his international experience and previous stints in various European leagues. Brighton, which has maintained its presence in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons, achieved an eighth-place finish in the previous campaign. David’s arrival marks a new chapter in his well-travelled career, having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before his move to Belgium in July 2024.
