Four individuals implicated in a probe related to the production of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now confronted with 19 additional charges, as per recent court filings. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. All four have ties to Western University, either as students or recent graduates, with the trio of men having backgrounds in the engineering field.
The updated set of charges submitted to the Ontario Court of Justice now brings the total number of distinct counts to 31. Some charges are shared among all four accused, while others are specific to individual defendants. The fresh charges encompass possession of five distinct explosive materials, possession of stolen items, and unauthorized access to computer data associated with the production of firearms.
The investigation, which commenced on January 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University involving two individuals, led to the arrest of one person near an engineering building on campus. Subsequent inquiries directed law enforcement to a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood, where the remaining three suspects were apprehended.
Law enforcement conducted an extensive search of the property at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as two other residences in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec. Upon the initial arrests, the defendants faced various firearms charges, including the manufacture of a handgun and possession of a loaded restricted handgun.
Fresh charges against Tong, Wang, and Ji involve possession of firearm accessories, including magazines and suppression devices, along with possession of another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang have also been accused of handling and negligently storing a rifle.
Tong, who faces the majority of charges, is additionally charged with incidents in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec. While Tong possessed a firearms license, certain charges stem from possessing a firearm at a location not authorized by his license.
Wang and Tong are also facing new charges related to events preceding their arrests. Wang is charged with manufacturing a weapon between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both individuals are accused of breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Court documents reveal that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji are now confronted with a fresh slate of charges for possessing explosive substances, specifically pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. These individuals were initially charged with possessing precursor substances and finished high explosives.
Additionally, all four face a charge of possessing property belonging to Western University valued at less than $5,000. Wang is individually charged with accessing computer data related to firearms or prohibited devices, specifically design files capable of being used in the manufacturing of devices with a 3D printer or metal milling machine.
As the legal process unfolds, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang 20, Han 11, and Ji 13. Two of the accused are currently out on bail, while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail and remains detained, while Han’s bail was denied, leading to his remand in February. Wang was granted bail in March under stringent conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and continuous supervision by two sureties who each posted $200,000, while Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
