The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In response, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo. To accommodate this roster move, Lazaro Estrada, a right-hander, was designated for assignment.
Additionally, on the same day, Toronto brought up left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo and sent right-hander Chase Lee down to Triple-A.
Guerrero sustained the injury during Friday’s game against the Yankees when he collided with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a chaotic play at third base in the sixth inning. Lombard attempted to jump over Guerrero, but his knee and thigh made contact with Guerrero’s head, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the collision, Guerrero managed to score a run but appeared disoriented afterward, prompting his substitution in the following inning.
Manager John Schneider noted that Guerrero experienced a headache post-game on Friday, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero currently holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Tiedemann, who was called up, had a record of 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven games, including two starts, across various minor league levels this season.
