Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval towards a journalist who referenced parts of the suspected gunman’s manifesto during a 60 Minutes interview following the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Trump, accompanied by his wife and top administration officials, was swiftly escorted to safety by Secret Service agents while attendees sought refuge under tables at the Washington Hilton ballroom as gunshots rang out.
Despite one officer sustaining a minor injury due to his bulletproof vest, authorities believe the targeted attack was aimed at Trump and other high-ranking government figures.
The alleged shooter, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, reportedly sent messages to family members minutes before the shooting, labeling himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin” and expressing discontent with the actions of the US administration. Allen is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
During the interview, Trump criticized CBS presenter Norah O’Donnell for quoting from the document supposedly sent by the suspect prior to the attack, which contained derogatory references towards Trump. Trump vehemently denied the accusations and condemned the journalist for reading such content.
Allen listed his targets as “administration officials ranked from highest to lowest,” omitting FBI Director Kash Patel. In his writings, Allen mentioned his refusal to tolerate injustice associated with individuals he accused of misconduct, including Trump.
Investigations revealed anti-Trump and anti-Christian sentiments on Allen’s social media profiles. Reports suggest that his brother provided authorities with evidence of Allen’s radical views, highlighting his strong opposition to perceived injustices under the current administration.
Trump disclosed that the First Lady, Melania, was visibly distressed by the shooting incident. He acknowledged the natural fear that arises in such situations and praised Melania for her composed handling of the ordeal.
Describing Melania as strong and intelligent, Trump commended her for her calm demeanor and attentiveness throughout the alarming incident.
