Virgin Media has recently slashed the cost of its fastest broadband package to a new all-time low. The company has introduced an unexpected sale, reducing the price of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 package offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails at £29.99 per month. However, it is now available at a discounted rate of £26.99 per month. This promotion results in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, averaging around 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this current offer represents the most competitive pricing ever for its Gig1 plan. With these high speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in under seven minutes.
Despite the significant price reduction, it should be noted that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice within the minimum contract period. The price will rise to £30.99 starting from April 2027 and further increase to £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the top speed of 1,130Mbps may not be available to all households in the UK, so it is advisable to verify availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
In comparison to other providers, such as Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal presents a compelling option. Although Sky has reduced the price of its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains more expensive than Virgin and offers slower speeds. Similarly, BT’s 900Mbps connection is priced at £37.99, indicating a higher cost compared to Virgin’s offering.
Alternatively, Community Fibre is currently providing 1Gbps speeds for just £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract period. However, this service is limited to London and select south-east locations.
When selecting a broadband plan, it is essential to consider individual needs and usage patterns. For a couple streaming Netflix daily, speeds around 100Mbps should suffice. Larger households engaging in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming should consider speeds of at least 300Mbps. A broadband connection can be likened to a road – heavier traffic leads to slower movement.
Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre broadband is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly connected to your home, providing seamless connectivity for various online activities.
