“Trump: US Can Manage without Opening Strait of Hormuz”

Donald Trump, during his visit to China, expressed that the US could manage without the need to open the Strait of Hormuz. He mentioned in an interview with Fox News that American military actions in the region were aimed at assisting other nations. Trump emphasized, “We don’t need it at all,” regarding the strait’s significance. Discussions between Trump and Xi Jinping went smoothly, although reports indicated tensions between US and Chinese officials behind the scenes. Trump highlighted mutual concerns with China over Iran, nuclear weapons, and the importance of keeping the Strait open.

After concluding his visit, Trump departed from Beijing, where he met with top Chinese leaders, including Xi Jinping. The visit involved various official engagements, including a state banquet and discussions on key issues. Trump’s departure from Beijing marked the end of his visit. The US President reiterated his stance that the US military presence in the Strait of Hormuz was to assist allies like Israel, Saudi Arabia, and others. He also mentioned that China desired the strait to remain open and offered assistance in resolving related issues.

Trump commended the prominent business leaders accompanying him in Beijing, labeling them as the “biggest business leaders in the world.” He emphasized their role in driving deals and creating job opportunities. Additionally, Trump acknowledged China’s significant investments with these business leaders. The US President praised Xi Jinping’s business-like demeanor and expressed satisfaction with their discussions on trade.

Xi Jinping reportedly assured Trump of not providing military support to Iran but indicated China’s interest in continuing oil purchases. Trump acknowledged China’s desire for the Strait of Hormuz to remain open and Xi’s willingness to assist in negotiations. The US President mentioned the multiple demands China had from the US in their discussions.

Despite tensions and disputes, Trump and Xi Jinping engaged in talks covering various critical issues, including Taiwan. Both leaders maintained their respective stances on contentious topics. The US Secretary of State affirmed the consistent US policy on Taiwan during the meeting with Xi Jinping. Rubio stated that discussions on Taiwan were raised by China but did not lead to policy changes on the US side.
