“ChatGPT Users Face Major Outages, Seek VPN Solutions”

Thousands of individuals encountered difficulties while using ChatGPT this afternoon. Over 7,600 users reported issues with OpenAI, the platform behind the app, starting from approximately 3:20 pm. Users experienced warnings about “unusual activity detected on your phone” and faced challenges loading previous chats or initiating new ones.

In the UK, ChatGPT users expressed frustrations as the app remained inaccessible this evening. Some users shared their experiences on Downdetector, mentioning connection losses and expressing relief at resorting to traditional methods. Others suggested resolving regional interruptions by connecting to VPN networks in Singapore or Taiwan.

A geographical breakdown indicates that the bulk of complaints originated from London, Manchester, and Birmingham, with nearly 6,000 problem reports by 3:52 pm. Users highlighted their inability to kickstart new conversations within the app, citing error messages like ‘hmmm something seems to have gone wrong.’

Furthermore, users provided snapshots of error messages they encountered, including the recurring message, “Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong.” An escalation in reported issues with ChatGPT was evident from a graph depicting a surge in complaints during the afternoon.

The reports of problems with OpenAI, the operator of ChatGPT, surged around 3:20 pm, with more than 7,600 complaints logged. According to Downdetector, 87% of these reports pertain to challenges experienced while using ChatGPT.
