“British Airways Implements Stricter Rules on In-Flight Photography”

Date:

British Airways has implemented stricter regulations regarding passenger behavior that could lead to their removal from the aircraft.

In today’s era dominated by influencers and content creators, the use of smartphones on flights has gained popularity, with many individuals choosing to document their entire journey through photos or videos. Even casual vacationers often capture moments during their flight.

While seemingly innocuous, this practice can have serious consequences for travelers, regardless of whether they are content creators. British Airways has revised its policies for passengers on board, introducing more stringent guidelines for taking photos and videos.

In an updated section 11a of its ‘behavior on the aircraft’ conditions, the airline specified that if a passenger is believed to have filmed, live-streamed, or photographed the crew or fellow passengers without consent, British Airways may take necessary actions to prevent the behavior from continuing.

The airline further stated that failure to adhere to these rules could result in passengers being asked to disembark upon landing or being denied travel on subsequent legs of their journey. Additionally, such incidents may be reported to authorities for potential prosecution of any criminal offenses committed.

British Airways also mentioned that if diversion costs are incurred due to unacceptable conduct leading to an unscheduled landing and passenger removal, the traveler would be responsible for covering the reasonable diversion expenses.

Nevertheless, passengers are not prohibited from taking photos onboard altogether. They are still permitted to capture images of their seats, window views, cabin amenities, meals, beverages, and personal highlights, as long as they do not film cabin crew members without consent.

This rule also applies to photographing or recording other passengers without consent. By being mindful of their surroundings and the content they capture, holidaymakers can still document their journey for social media or personal keepsakes.

British Airways is not the sole airline enforcing such regulations against unauthorized photography of cabin crew. Ryanair, for instance, strictly prohibits recording or photographing its personnel without consent in its terms and conditions, allowing only personal recordings or photographs.
