“Argos Unveils Manhattan S4-R: Sky Q Features, No Monthly Fees”

Date:

Argos has introduced a new device, the Manhattan S4-R set-top box, which offers similar features to Sky Q without the need for monthly fees. This device allows users to record programs, pause live TV, and store content on its hard drive, all without any ongoing costs.

The Manhattan S4-R operates with Freesat, utilizing an existing satellite dish to provide over 100 channels, including popular ones like BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, and more. It boasts an intuitive interface, search functions, and access to a vast library of on-demand content, supporting apps like BBC iPlayer and ITVX.

Although it may not match Sky Q in premium sports and movie packages, Freesat’s appeal lies in its free-to-watch nature. The Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently available for £219.99, with larger versions expected to launch soon. The device has garnered high demand, as indicated by its status on Argos as “in demand” and “selling fast.”

Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the S4-R’s enhanced recording capabilities, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings. This offering aims to provide households with a subscription-free alternative that offers flexibility and choice.

Additionally, the Pleio puck, another innovative device, brings free streaming access to TVs without requiring an aerial, offering over 50 live channels through internet delivery. The Pleio puck, priced at £99.99, includes a gaming controller and access to a variety of online games.

Sky has also announced a 20 percent price reduction for its Sky Glass Air TV ahead of the World Cup, with prices starting from £4.50 per month. Customers interested in the Sky Glass Gen 2 model can opt for a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar starting from £11 per month.
