Tragic Accident Claims Life of 3-Year-Old at Brazilian School

A tragic incident occurred at a private school in Prudentopolis, Brazil’s Parana region, where a 3-year-old girl named Sofia Aparecida Iaciuk lost her life after being struck by a falling goalpost. Sofia was playing beneath the metal structure while other children were hanging from it when the accident happened, causing her to suffer immediate cardiac arrest.

Despite the efforts of paramedics who tried to resuscitate her for about an hour, Sofia succumbed to her injuries. The local fire department reported that the children were playing on a court when the goalpost dislodged. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.

The government of Prudentopolis expressed deep condolences for Sofia’s passing in a Facebook post, offering prayers and support to her family. The school also mourned the loss of Sofia, stating that she will be dearly remembered. Following this tragedy, the State Department of Education emphasized the importance of securing sports equipment on school premises to prevent similar accidents.

In response to the heartbreaking event, the Parana Department of Sports and Recreation decided to postpone the Parana School Games finals, which have been rescheduled for the following Wednesday. Sofia will be laid to rest at the Sao Jose Chapel, as her family continues to grieve in silence.
