A drone from Russia violated the airspace of a NATO country during a nighttime attack aimed at Ukraine. The defense ministry of Romania reported drone strikes on civilian and infrastructure targets during the night, with Romanian air defenses tracking two air targets in the border region of Tulcea. However, radar contact was lost over an unpopulated area, leading to what was described as a significant breach of international law.
The ministry expressed strong condemnation of the Russian Federation’s actions, labeling them a threat to regional security and a violation of international norms. Following the alert, a team was dispatched to investigate the incident that occurred shortly after midnight on Friday and concluded at 2:48 am. Tulcea, situated near the Ukrainian port of Izmail, has been a focal point of Russian attacks and is adjacent to the River Danube.
This incident follows Romania’s recent deployment of fighter jets in response to Russian assaults on Odesa ports along the River Danube. Emergency alerts were issued in northern Tulcea around 3:45 am on Tuesday, lasting approximately an hour. The Ministry of National Defence of Romania confirmed the deployment of F-16 aircraft to intercept a group of drones heading towards Izmail, Ukraine.
While Ukrainian authorities reported significant damage to civilian and port infrastructure in Izmail due to Russian attacks, no casualties were reported. Tragically, there has been a rise in brutal strikes causing the deaths of children and elderly individuals in Ukraine. An eight-year-old boy lost his life in a drone attack in Cherkasy this week, while a 74-year-old woman was killed in an appalling assault at a bus stop in Zaporizhzhia.
