“Former Red Bull Principal Chris Horner Eyes MotoGP Venture”

Date:

Christian Horner’s appearance at a MotoGP race has sparked rumors of a potential venture into a new sport. The former Red Bull team principal was seen at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, fueling speculation about his interest in the premier class of two-wheeled motorsport.

Having been let go by Red Bull last year, the 52-year-old has been exploring ways to re-enter the F1 scene. Despite being associated with roles at Aston Martin and Alpine, Horner remains on the periphery.

Toto Wolff, a former rival from Mercedes, hinted that Horner’s return to F1 might be challenging due to past conflicts in the sport. MotoGP, now owned by F1’s parent company Liberty Media, could present a new opportunity for him.

During the weekend’s final practice session, Horner was seen at the factory Honda garage engaging with Honda Racing Corporation CEO Koji Watanabe and discussing with key figures at Ducati, the reigning world champions.

Expressing his admiration for MotoGP, Horner mentioned his long-standing fondness for the sport and his interest in witnessing its evolution under new ownership. He also indicated openness to exploring other forms of motorsport during his visit.

Wolff’s potential acquisition of a stake in Alpine could complicate Horner’s path back to F1. Wolff clarified that their interest in the stake is separate from any rivalry with Horner, emphasizing the need to assess the investment’s viability.

If Horner ventures into MotoGP, he would follow in the footsteps of ex-Haas boss Guenther Steiner, who led a consortium to acquire the Red Bull KTM Tech3 outfit last year.

Horner observed an exciting sprint race at the MotoGP event, where Marc Marquez emerged victorious despite challenging weather conditions. The main Grand Prix was scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
