“Hate Crime Alert: Suspects Sought in London Synagogue Arson Attempt”

Date:

Two individuals are being sought in connection with an attempted arson incident at a synagogue in north London. The Metropolitan Police is treating the case as a hate crime following the suspects’ actions of throwing two bottles believed to contain petrol at Finchley Reform Synagogue during the early hours of Wednesday. Fortunately, the bottles did not ignite, and although a brick was also thrown, no damage or injuries were reported.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by detectives from the Met’s North West Command Unit, with assistance from specialized detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing London. As of now, no arrests have been made.

The police are appealing for witnesses, acknowledging the concern this incident may have caused in the community, especially following a previous arson attack in Golders Green. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams emphasized the seriousness with which such incidents are taken and urged anyone with relevant information, including CCTV or dash cam footage, to come forward.

Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area in the coming days, with additional officers deployed to address any concerns. The police statement highlighted the urgency in identifying the suspects and reiterated the need for community cooperation in providing any pertinent details.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities either by calling 101 and referencing case number 1685/15APR or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
