“Royal Visit: Meghan Markle Prefers ‘Meg?’ as Form of Address”

Date:

Meghan Markle decided to forego her royal title and clarified her preferred form of address on the initial day of her and Prince Harry’s journey to Australia. Welcomed by a large crowd of supporters, they began their Australian visit by embracing children at a hospital. The couple engaged in taking selfies, with Meghan receiving flowers and a greeting card at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Subsequently, Meghan visited a shelter for women before reuniting with Harry at a museum dedicated to veterans during the initial phase of their trip in Australia.

During their visit, Steve Cotterill, the first Australian poet laureate at the Australian National Veterans’ Art Museum, asked the couple how they wanted to be addressed. Harry responded with “However you like,” while Meghan suggested, “Call me Meg?” Additionally, it was noted that when inquired by staff at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne on the appropriate way to address the Sussexes, it was conveyed that “Harry and Meghan is fine. They’re pretty relaxed.”

Traditionally, male members of the Royal Family are initially addressed as ‘Your Royal Highness’, followed by ‘Sir’, and female members as ‘Your Royal Highness’ and then ‘Ma’am’. However, following Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior working royals in 2020, they relinquished their HRH titles.

The couple’s office previously stated that the four-day visit would concentrate on mental health, community resilience, and support for veterans and their families, in addition to private meetings and special projects. Apart from public appearances, they will participate in private commercial ventures. Meghan is scheduled for an on-stage interview at a high-end retreat in Sydney labeled as a “girls’ weekend” event.

While VIP tickets for the event at the luxurious InterContinental Coogee Beach hotel are priced at £1,670, not all tickets have been sold out. The organizers of the retreat had earlier claimed that the event, capped at 300 attendees, had reached full capacity, but recent announcements suggest otherwise. Attendees are required to have security clearance for access, and mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited.

Meghan’s involvement in the retreat was announced by Gemma O’Neill, the host of the Her Best Life podcast, which is orchestrating the exclusive event. The event aims to offer a unique experience for women seeking relaxation, connection, and enjoyment through various activities including yoga classes, panel discussions, and a special appearance by Meghan.
