Glenn Byrne in Good Spirits Post-Fight Hospitalization

Date:

Glenn Byrne displayed high spirits, engaging in conversations, laughter, and jokes after being hospitalized following his defeat to William Crolla on Friday. The Irish boxer suffered his first professional loss as Crolla, the younger brother of former WBA lightweight champion Anthony, secured a seventh-round knockout victory at Planet Ice, Altrincham.

During the fight, Byrne knocked down Crolla multiple times, leading many to believe the match should have been stopped earlier. However, the referee allowed the bout to continue, resulting in Crolla’s decisive win, bringing his professional record to 10-1 while Byrne’s record now stands at 7-1-1.

After the fight, Byrne received medical attention in the ring before being transported to the hospital. Managed by his brother Jay Byrne, Glenn’s team provided an update stating he was in good spirits and awaiting the results of a CT scan.

Promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged the high stakes of the match, noting that Crolla’s career could have been on the line with a loss. He praised both fighters for their determination and resilience, highlighting the intense battle that took place in the ring.

Crolla expressed concern for Byrne’s well-being, apologizing for celebrating his victory and acknowledging Byrne’s warrior spirit during the fight. The boxing community showed support for Byrne, recognizing his bravery in the ring.
