“I Am Maximus Makes History with Grand National Win”

Date:

I Am Maximus made history by winning the Randox Grand National at Aintree, following in the footsteps of the iconic Red Rum. The favorite at 9-2 odds secured victory after a significant £100,000 bet placed at 8-1 odds resulted in an £800,000 win for an unidentified bettor.

Under the training of Willie Mullins, I Am Maximus, who previously won the race in 2024 and finished second the year before, became the first horse since Red Rum to reclaim the Grand National title. In a thrilling finish, I Am Maximus overtook Jordans near the finish line to secure the victory.

Owned by billionaire JP McManus, the win marked Mullins’s third consecutive Grand National triumph, elevating him to the ranks of the most successful trainers in the event’s history alongside Red Rum’s trainer Ginger McCain and Fred Rimell. Jockey Paul Townend praised the horse’s performance, attributing part of the success to the cheekpieces worn during the race.

McManus expressed pride in the victory, noting the horse’s exceptional performance and suitability for the National. Despite early exits by other contenders like Panic Attack, I Am Maximus proved his mettle by carrying top weight and delivering a flawless run. McManus acknowledged the horse’s potential for future success in the National, aiming to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Red Rum.

The day saw thrilling competition and unexpected turns, with I Am Maximus emerging as the well-deserved winner. Stay tuned for further updates and insights on this remarkable event from Mirror Sport.
