“Unlocking Extra Flight Perks: Tips for Budget Travelers”

Date:

While airlines often charge extra for in-flight refreshments, there are ways to enjoy additional perks without paying more.

On long-haul flights, passengers typically receive complimentary meals, drinks, and snacks, but this is not the case for many short-haul flights, especially on budget airlines. Despite the attractive ticket prices, passengers may end up paying extra for onboard purchases, such as snacks and beverages.

Nevertheless, budget airlines do offer complimentary services on occasion. Adam Hodge, a 35-year-old Wizz Air cabin crew member based at Luton Airport, shared exclusive insights with the Mirror on how passengers can enjoy these perks without additional charges.

“For special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or other celebrations, I like to provide extra service whenever possible,” said Adam, who hails from Newcastle.

He also mentioned a thoughtful gesture: “When a passenger buys one of our Proseccos onboard, I add a small handkerchief to enhance the experience.”

In cases of flight delays, airlines may offer complimentary services to passengers. Adam explained the circumstances: “During extended delays, we initiate a ‘complimentary service on board,’ based on the destination and flight duration.”

He elaborated on the reasons for such situations: “In summer, air traffic control delays can lead to extended waiting periods due to ‘air traffic control slots.’ In such cases, we provide snacks and water as a complimentary service to passengers onboard for an extended time.”

For regular flights without delays or special occasions, passengers have the option to purchase refreshments onboard. Adam highlighted a new feature by Wizz Air—an onboard ordering service accessible through an app, allowing passengers to order drinks and snacks directly to their seats without waiting for the traditional trolley service.

“After takeoff, passengers can use the app for ordering, followed by the trolley service,” he explained. “By scanning the QR code and connecting to our Bluetooth, passengers can browse available products and promotions, order, and pay for items delivered to their seat.”

This service offers passengers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing them to order at their convenience throughout the flight.
