Sixteen individuals sustained injuries when a 17-year-old male student carried out a shooting at a school in Turkey, as confirmed by authorities.
The incident occurred at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Siverek district of Sanliurfa on Tuesday morning. Following the shooting, Governor Hasan Sıldak of Sanliurfa stated that the perpetrator, a former student born in 2007, took his own life. Governor Sıldak mentioned, “We have 16 injured. The attacker committed suicide. We evacuated the school. The incident is under thorough investigation.”
Emergency medical, police, and special operations teams responded to the scene after receiving a tip-off. A witness informed NTV channel that the assailant entered the school premises armed and began shooting indiscriminately. The witness reported that the attacker initially fired outside before moving into the school building and took students hostage.
The Interior Ministry of Turkey issued a statement indicating that the assailant had been identified. According to initial reports, 10 students, four teachers, one police officer, and one canteen worker sustained injuries and were transported to Siverek State Hospital for medical attention.
The ministry disclosed that the teenager used a pump-action shotgun during the attack and later took his own life with the same weapon. Security forces have initiated an investigation into the incident.
