Two individuals have lost their lives following a tragic incident where a tourist coach collided with a truck near a popular beach resort in Egypt. The accident occurred on the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road, situated north of the Red Sea close to the city of Hurghada. Out of the 36 individuals injured in the crash, 24 were reportedly foreign nationals, although specific nationalities have not been revealed by authorities yet.
Upon receiving reports of the collision between a coach owned by a Red Sea tourism company traveling north from Hurghada and a heavy truck, emergency services promptly responded to the scene. Tragically, the driver of the coach and another passenger have been confirmed dead, while several foreign nationals among the injured are in critical condition.
Hurghada, located approximately 290 miles south of Cairo, is a popular tourist destination known for its pristine sandy beaches and luxurious hotels. The journey along the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road typically takes around five hours, and the destination of the coach involved in the accident remains undisclosed.
In a separate incident, at least two individuals were killed when two passenger trains collided in Egypt’s Nile Delta region recently. The collision took place in the city of Zagazig, the capital of Sharqiya province, resulting in around 30 others sustaining serious injuries, with some believed to be foreign nationals.
Egypt has seen its fair share of train accidents due to an outdated railway system coupled with management issues. Efforts have been made by the government to enhance the railway infrastructure in recent years to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
