“Multiple Accidents Cause Chaos on M25 Motorway”

Date:

Parts of the M25 experienced severe disruption due to two serious accidents. An air ambulance was dispatched to the motorway to assist with one of the incidents.

National Highways reported that traffic was halted on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junction 29 in Romford and junction 28 in Brentwood following a crash and vehicle fire before 7 am.

In addition, the motorway was closed in the clockwise direction between Waltham Cross at junction 25 and Waltham Abbey at junction 26 following a significant incident involving a lorry just after 8 am, prompting the air ambulance to respond.

According to an update from National Highways: East, “Lane 2 and 3 are now open past the scene on the #M25 clockwise between J25 and J26 #HolmesdaleTunnel. However, Lane 1 remains closed for resurfacing, leading to 9 miles of congestion and 60-minute delays back to J23 #SouthMimms.”

National Highways provided further updates as lanes reopened. “Lane 3 has reopened past the scene on the M25 clockwise between J25 and J26 HolmesdaleTunnel,” they shared. “Lanes 1 and 2 are still closed for resurfacing, causing 6 miles of congestion and over 60-minute delays.”

London Fire Brigade confirmed that two men were injured in the morning lorry crash on the M25 between junctions 25 and 26. Firefighters responded to the collision between two lorries, treated the injured men on-site, and transported them to the hospital.

National Highways projected that travel disruptions would persist until 4:30 pm, with severe delays expected on the M25 clockwise between junctions J25 and J26 for the next few hours. The agency reported six miles of congestion extending back to junction 24 at Potters Bar.

Despite some lanes reopening, traffic continued to be congested, with National Highways reporting delays of 90 minutes following the second incident. A diversion route was set up to circumvent the M25 as authorities investigated the scene.

Another serious incident on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 25 and 26 led to further complications, with an air ambulance responding to a collision involving a lorry. National Highways announced that the road would be closed for several hours for investigation, resulting in 90-minute delays and six miles of congestion.

Although traffic was moving slowly on the M25, all lanes had reopened, causing long delays. Commuters faced around 80-minute delays on the anti-clockwise carriageway following a vehicle collision and fire.

Despite the reopening of all lanes, traffic was at a standstill on the anti-clockwise carriageway, leading back to Lakeside shopping center. Emergency services responded to the morning collision, resulting in the closure of lanes due to an oil spill that needed to be cleared.

Motorists were advised to expect delays exceeding 80 minutes during rush hour and were encouraged to allow extra travel time or seek alternative routes. Traffic congestion extended eight miles from Essex, causing further delays on the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 29 and 28, stretching back to Lakeside shopping center.
