“Explosions Rock Indonesian School During Friday Prayers”

Date:

A school in Indonesia was struck by explosions during Friday prayers, leaving dozens injured. The incident occurred in the Kelapa Gading neighborhood of Jakarta. At least three individuals are in critical condition, with a 17-year-old student identified as the suspected perpetrator. Around 17 other students are receiving medical treatment following the blasts.

Indonesian Police bomb squad members are conducting investigations at the school’s mosque where the explosions occurred. Witnesses reported hearing two loud blasts shortly after midday while the sermon was ongoing. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police is looking into the suspect’s background and potential motives for the incident that shook Kelapa Gading.

Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad mentioned that the suspect, a 17-year-old male student, is undergoing surgery. National Police Chief Listyo Sigit confirmed that the suspect was one of two students undergoing surgery due to severe injuries from the explosions. Sigit stated that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the suspect’s identity, living environment, and motives.

The police are examining a toy submachine gun found at the scene with specific inscriptions, including “14 words. For Agartha,” and “Brenton Tarrant: Welcome to hell.” Most victims sustained injuries from glass shards and burns. The cause of the explosions, originating near the mosque’s loudspeaker, is still under investigation. Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri reported that the injured were swiftly taken to nearby hospitals, with 20 students hospitalized for burns, including three in serious condition.
