An 81-year-old pilot tragically lost his life following a light aircraft crash in Scotland. The incident occurred near a gliding center close to Kinross, where the man was pronounced dead. Fortunately, no one else was harmed, and authorities have notified his family.
The Police Scotland spokesperson revealed that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch will conduct a thorough investigation into the crash. The incident was reported around 1.40pm on Monday, involving a light plane crash at an airfield near Scotlandwell, Kinross. Emergency services responded promptly, confirming the pilot’s fatality and ongoing inquiries into the circumstances.
Firefighters, paramedics, and police were quick to arrive at the Scottish Gliding Centre after the crash occurred just before 2pm. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 1.48pm reporting the aircraft crash, dispatching units from Fife and Dundee to the scene.
The Scotland Ambulance Service also dispatched medical teams to the crash site following the 1.40pm call reporting the incident in Portmoak, Kinross. Local politicians expressed their sorrow over the tragedy, with Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and Kinross-shire, and Jim Fairlie, MSP for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire, acknowledging the community’s concerns and thanking emergency responders for their rapid actions.
