A 25-year-old soccer player tragically lost his life after being attacked by a group of teenagers attempting to steal the pizzas he was carrying. The incident occurred in Pavia, Italy, as Gabriele Vaccaro and his companions were heading back to their car in the early hours of Sunday, April 19, when they encountered five youths. An altercation ensued, resulting in Gabriele being stabbed in the neck and abdomen.
Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene, while Gabriele’s friends, unaware of the seriousness of his injuries, took him home. Paramedics were later summoned, and Gabriele was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately succumbed to his wounds shortly after arrival.
Law enforcement authorities have arrested and questioned three of the five youths involved, including two young men and a 17-year-old, with the latter suspected of carrying out the fatal stabbing. CCTV footage reportedly shows the suspect wielding a screwdriver during the assault.
The confrontation is believed to have started when the group demanded the pizzas from Gabriele, leading to a tragic escalation resulting in his untimely death. A companion of Gabriele also sustained a minor abdominal injury and received medical treatment.
Originally hailing from Favara, Gabriele, a postal worker and dedicated footballer who played for various clubs, was described by Atletico Favara as a kind-hearted individual, known for his sportsmanship, courtesy, and enthusiasm. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, and a twin sister.
The investigation into this heartbreaking incident is ongoing.
